Building Green Electronics

Our Vision

REFORM seeks to build the cutting-edge materials and processes that have so far hindered the commercial application of functional green electronics.

We want to progress green electronics from early-stage research to near-market-readiness by building prototypes that can be validated by industry so that they can be scaled quickly.

Our ambition is mutually shared throughout our synergistic consortium of expert researchers, thought leaders and world-renowned industry professionals.

 Objectives

  • Create awareness and access to the critical building blocks that enable rapid adoption of sustainable flexible, printed electronics.

  • Create a suite of sustainable fully-organic conductive inks for use in printed flexible electronics.

  • Develop sustainable, flexible substrates for printed green functional electronics.

  • Create bio-based debondable adhesives to separate electronic components on demand for recycling.

  • Integrate developed components into new green sensors and technology concepts that enable circularity.

  • Develop and validate plastic and metal recovery processes enabling circularity.

  • Create a complete testing and verification workflow and support standard development.

  • Develop applied industrial sensor prototypes that enable mass-scalable green electronics.

Expected Impact

REFORM brings together a group of leading organisations with world-class expertise, unique intellectual property and capabilities in printed, flexible and sustainable/organic electronics. Together, the REFORM consortium possesses a unique collaborative capability that will drive sustainable innovation.

  • REFORM will demonstrate European leadership in the area of flexible, printed and organic electronics.

  • The project will lead to the development of new concepts, designs and technologies electronics to support and enable circular economy and sustainability.

  • Stimulate the development of next-generation components and systems that will deliver climate-neutral digital solutions for a wide range of sectors.

Funding

Horizon Europe

Horizon Europe is the ambitious EU research & innovation framework programme for 2021-2027 with a budget of €95.5 billion.

Its overarching goals are:

  • to strengthen the EU's scientific and technological bases and the European Research Area (ERA);

  • to boost Europe's innovation capacity, competitiveness and jobs;

  • to deliver on citizen's priorities and sustain our socio-economic model and values.

With a particular focus on creating impact or the European Green Deal, the digital and sustainability transition and recovery from the coronavirus-crisis.
